1 Orders, requests and permission
Приказы, просьбы, разрешения.1. Giving orders( Приказания)English-Russian grammar dictionary > Orders, requests and permission
-
2 Permission
Как попросить разрешения или дать разрешение1)а) Чтобы попросить разрешения сделать что-либо, используют глаголы can/ could и may/ might. (May, might носят более официальный оттенок).б) Попросить разрешения более официальным способом можно с помощью выражений I wonder if you would mind if..., Would you mind if... (в предложении после союза if употребляется Past simple), Do you mind if... (после союза if употребляется Present simple)I wonder if you would mind very much if
I went to bed? — Вы не будете возражать, если я пойду спать?2)б) Для выражения запрещения (а не просто отклонения просьбы) используется глагол must с отрицанием. О других способах выражения запрещения - см. Giving orders, 1.3)а) Чтобы передать в непрямой речи (см. Indirect speech), что некто дает или дал разрешение на что-либо, используются глаголы can (настоящее и будущее время) и could (прошедшее время).John says that we can stay at his house — Джон говорит, что мы можем остановиться у него.
б) Если в прямой речи сообщается, что нечто было разрешено в некоторой определенной ситуации, то можно употребить was/were allowed to, но не could. Если нечто было разрешено вообще, можно использовать глагол could и выражение was/were allowed to.I was allowed to come in — Мне разрешили войти (здесь употребление could невозможно).
People were allowed to/could start small and medium-sized businesses — Людям было разрешено заниматься мелким и средним бизнесом.
в) В отрицательных предложениях о прошлом, чтобы сообщить о том, что нечто было разрешено как вообще, так и в конкретной ситуации, можно использовать и выражение was/were allowed to, и глагол could. We were not allowed to/couldn't open that door. — Нам не разрешали открывать эту дверь / Нам не разрешили открыть эту дверь.

3 Requests
1)а) Нейтральная просьба выражается общим вопросом (см. Yes-No question) с модальным глаголом will, would, can или could. Употребление may делает просьбу более официальной.I have a napkin, please? — Салфетку мне не дадите?I have these pencils? — Не дадите ли мне эти карандаши? ( обращение к продавщице).3) Чтобы вежливо выразить свое желание и тем самым, возможно, высказать просьбу, используют конструкции I would like = I'd like. Просьба, выраженная конструкцией I wish you would (см. wish + that - clause, 2) имеет оттенок раздражения.a cup of coffee — Я бы хотел чашку кофе.to get some information about theatres — Я бы хотел получить некоторые сведения о театрах.you'd be quiet — Пожалуйста, тише!4) В отличие от русского языка, для выражения вежливой просьбы в английском языке не используются вопросительные предложения с отрицанием - см. Let's not waste any more time No perdamos ya más tiempo To translate l et's go, use vamos or vámonos o n its own without a following infinitive:
Let's go to the theatre ¡Vamos al teatro! ► When let's is used on its own to reply to a suggestion, translate using vamos or vámonos i f the verb in the suggestion was ir. Use vale or venga if not:
"Shall we go?" - "Yes, let's" "¿Nos vamos?" - "¡Sí, vamos!" or "¡Sí, vámonos!"
"Shall we watch the match?" - "Yes, let's" "¿Vemos el partido?" - "Sí, vale" or "Sí, venga"
Third person ► When let introduces a command, suggestion or wish in the third person, translate using que + ((subjunctive)):
Let him come up! ¡Que suba!
Let there be no misunderstanding about this ¡Que no haya ningún malentendido sobre esto!
Let them do as they like ¡Que hagan lo que quieran! ► Be careful to distinguish between the "permission" sense of let sb do something and the "command" sense:
Please let them stay here (i.e. Please allow them to stay) Déjalos que se queden aquí or Déjalos quedarse aquí, por favor
Let them stay here! (i.e. expressing a decision or an order) ¡Que se queden aquí! When que is used in this sense, it never takes an accent. For further uses and examples, see main entry* * *
